THE LEAD:
Meaghan Dunn
scored her second goal of the game in the 82nd minute and visiting Nichols College escaped with a 2-1 win over Dean College in non-league women's soccer action on Wednesday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
Dunn actually put the Bison on the board in the eighth minute when Megan Roy was taken down inside the box and Nichols was awarded a penalty kick. Dunn then fired her shot past the outstretched arms of senior Bulldog netminder Macy Parisee (East Freetown, Mass.) for a 1-0 lead for Nichols just 7:26 into the game.

Dean answered back in the 20th minute when freshman Elizabeth McGowan (Warwick, R.I.) sent a ball up the right side of the field that sophomore Miranda Seacord (Cambridge, N.Y.) was able to chase down, maneuver around a defender and deposit her second goal of the season into the back of the net at 19:55.

The Bulldogs then had a great scoring chance midway through the second half when Seacord had a defender on her hip as she raced up the right side and into the box, but her shot was turned aside by Nichols goalkeeper Olivia Marcantonio in the 67th minute.

Things looked to be headed for overtime, but Amanda Simco delivered a pass to Dunn who deposited the game-winning goal at 81:59 – her fourth tally of the season.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
Nichols held a 22-12 advantage in shots and a 7-5 edge in corner kicks. Parisee made seven stops in goal, while Marcantonio turned aside five of her own.

UP NEXT:
Dean is back in action on Saturday when they travel to Wentworth for a 3:00 PM start in Boston.
