The Dean College Bulldogs opened the 2018 season in heartbreaking fashion, falling 2-1 in double  overtime to Rivier University on Saturday at Lippert Field in Franklin, Mass. Brittney Fletcher (Tewskbury, Mass.) drove home the dagger with five minutes remaining in the second overtime to give Rivier the victory.

  • Fletcher's game winning goal rocketed inside the back post and beat Dean Keeper Jennifer Jacovino (Monroe, Conn.).

  • Rivier opened the scoring in the 14th minute when Keara Sheehan (Chelmsford, Mass.) received a beautiful through pass from Avery Martin (Milford, N.H.) and delivered past Dean goalie Macy Parisee (East Freetown, Mass.)

  • Dean responded with a goal in the closing seconds of the first half to tie the score at one.  On a free kick from the left side, Mackenzie Parisse (East Freetown, Mass.) rifled a cross to the back post and Allison Buckley (Guilford, Vt.) rose from the crowd to head the ball past Rivier goalie Kasey Smith (Hopkinton, N.H.)

  • Parisee dominated in goal for the Bulldogs, making 19 saves in 101 minutes of action.

  • Smith made eight saves and played the full game for the Raiders.

  • Rivier outshot the Bulldogs 26-10, including a 21-9 advantage in shots on goal.

  • The Raiders also led 11-6 in corner kicks.

  • The contest was the first as Bulldog head coach for Ashley Magruda-Wood.

  • Dean wastes little time returning to the pitch, hosting St. Joseph's (Conn.) tomorrow at 12:00 on Lippert Field in Franklin, Mass.
