THE LEAD:
Host Nichols College raced out to an early 7-0 lead and the Bison opened up their season with a 20-5 win over Dean College in non-league women's lacrosse action on Saturday afternoon.

Both Miranda Smith and Lizz McKinnon both recorded four goals for Nichols, while Lauryn Wilks (Hartford, Conn.) notched her third four-goal game in her last five contests dating back to last season.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
Six different student-athletes scored Nichols' first seven goals, but the Bulldogs got on the board, scoring three straight goals to tighten the score.

First, Wilks took a feed from Maggie Pomeroy (Sanbornville, N.H.) and got Dean on the board midway through the first half.

A little more than a minute later, Jordyn McKenney (Nashua, N.H.) posted her first collegiate goal and then Wilks capped the three-goal outburst with an unassisted strike moments later.

Down 11-3 at half, the Bulldogs found themselves trailing 18-3 in the second half when Wilks scored consecutive goals as Dean eventually fell, 20-5.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
Nichols held a 32-23 edge in shots, while the Bulldogs had a 15-12 advantage in draw controls.

UP NEXT:
Dean returns to action on Monday when they play host to the University of Saint Joseph at 12:00 PM.
