Makayla Rudder
(Springfield, Mass.) scored 17 of her team-best 19 points in the second half and Amanda Miressi (New Rochelle, N.Y.) chipped in with a career-high 14 off the bench as host Dean College pulled away from Elms College, 75-63, in New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) women's basketball action on Saturday.

Rudder actually led four players in double figures for Dean who also got 15 points from Iindia Pina (Carver, Mass.) and Nicole Romero (Winchendon, Mass.).

Angelica Peguero-Flores was the game's high scorer with 23 points on an impressive 11-for-12 shooting, while Niah Pantry notched a double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds. Regina LeBlanc overcame a tough shooting performance (1-for-7) by handing out a game-best ten assists to go along with five rebounds and three steals.

In a game that featured six ties, four lead changes (and 51 turnovers) the host Bulldogs outscored the Blazers 21-11 in the decisive third quarter as Rudder and Romero combined for 12 points in the frame by themselves, turning a four point halftime deficit into a 47-41 edge heading into the fourth.

Dean saw its lead move to 11 at 52-41 after Miressi drilled a top-of-the-key three-pointer, but Elms fought back and with a little more than five minutes left, McKenzie Huria knocked down a triple of her own and then Peguero-Flores scored easily inside and suddenly the Blazers were within five at 61-56.

Six quick points courtesy of Pina and Miressi pushed the Bulldog advantage back to 11 at 67-56 but Rudder sealed the game when she scored inside off of a wonderful feed from Sitaara Muhammad (Brockton, Mass.) with 43 seconds left.

Dean returns to action on Tuesday when they visit Newbury for a 7:00 PM tipoff against the Nighthawks. Elms, meanwhile, plays host to New England College on Tuesday as well.
