MARSHFIELD, Mass. – After earning a share of the regular season New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) championship in 2017-18, the Dean College Bulldogs were picked to finish fifth in the 2018-19 NECC Preseason Coaches Poll. A 14-2 conference record earned the Bulldogs a share of last season's regular season title, but the Bulldogs received only one first place vote in this year's poll. Defending champion Becker College 89 votes (four first place) led the pack while Eastern Nazarene and Newbury shared a tie for second. Co-regular season champions Newbury earned the fourth selection with Dean following closely behind in fifth place. Mitchell College, Elms College, Southern Vermont College, Lesley University and Bay Path University earned votes in the bottom half of the rankings.
First year head coach Alycia Gervais looks to build upon last year's successful framework, returning six players from the 2017-18 squad. NECC Defensive Player of the Year, Jamaya Cleveland (Greensboro, Ga.), will look to replicate the success of her sophomore year. Cleveland averaged 5.2 points per game while adding 3 rebounds and 2.5 steals per contest. Point guard Iindia Pina (Carver, Mass.) returns for her senior season after averaging 8.6 points per game and 5.6 rebounds per game a year ago. Nicole Romero (Winchendon, Mass.), Amanda Miressi (New Rochelle, N.Y.), Taisha Alexandre (Quincy, Mass.), and Tara Griffith (Los Angeles, Calif.) are all returners with opportunities to play big minutes for the Bulldogs in the new season.
Seven freshman fill in Coach Gervais' squad as the Bulldogs enter 2018-19 with 15 players on the roster.
Dean opens its 2018-19 slate with a home contest on Thursday, November 15th against Smith College. Tip off in Pieri Gymnasium is set for 6:00.
