GAME 1: Dean College 8, Rivier University 6
Led by two hits and three RBI from leadoff hitter Miranda Seacord (Cambridge, N.Y.) the Bulldogs picked up their first win of the season, topping Rivier University, 8-6, in non-league action on Sunday.

First-year hurler Shelby Smith (Southwick, Mass.) scooped up the victory by allowing just four earned runs to go along with five strikeouts.

Dean wasted little time getting on the board after Madisyn Butler (Richfield Springs, N.Y.) singled and then moved to second when Smith walked. Butler then raced home to give Dean a 1-0 lead on a Makenzie Souza (New Bedford, Mass.) single to right.

The Bulldogs went in front 3-0 when a Seacord single brought in both Emily Whelton (Dracut, Mass.) and Miranda Marquez (San Pedro, Calif.).

Rivier ended up tying the game by the time the third inning rolled around but Dean sprinted back in front with three runs in the fourth.

Single runs came in the fifth on a sacrifice fly by Alexis Portales (San Antonio, Texas) and in the seventh on a Smith RBI single.

Amazingly, every starter for the Bulldog had at least one hit, while Seacord and Butler each had two and scored two runs.

GAME 2: Rivier University 13, Dean College 5
Dean actually held a 3-0 lead after the first, but the Raiders rallied with seven runs over the first two innings and held on to topple the Bulldogs, 13-5 in the nightcap.

Bridget McDonough (North Reading, Mass.) had the biggest blow of the opening frame with a two-run triple.

Rivier answered back with four in the bottom of the inning courtesy of a two-run single from Taylor Roswell and RBI from Kellie Kennedy and Tayla Legrand.

Mikayla Ramsdell drove in two more in the second on a triple and then Hunter Greenleaf added another with a run-scoring single.

Dean did tack on two unearned runs in the fourth, but the Raiders scored six more runs over the final three innings to seal the win.

McDonough had two of the Bulldogs' five hits in the nightcap, while Smith drew two walks and scored a run.

Dean is back in action on Tuesday when they play Massachusetts Maritime in Buzzards Bay beginning at 3:30 PM.
