Amherst, Mass. – Dean College standout Westley Reel (Lakeville, Conn.) added to his bevy of academic and athletic awards on Wednesday when the men's lacrosse star was named to the New England Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association's All-Academic Team it was announced.
Members of the team are nominated by head coaches in Divisions I, II and III and are comprised of student-athletes who have excelled both in the classroom and on the field in their men's lacrosse careers.
In order to be selected, nominees must have senior standing, a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or better on a 4.0 scale and be a significant enough contributor that the he was nominated for at least all-conference consideration.
Reel hauled in both academic and athletic awards in his final campaign. He was named Dean College's Comeback Student-Athlete of the Year after missing all but two games as a junior due to injury. He responded in 2019 with a first-team all-conference selection after playing in all 14 games and leading the Bulldogs to a 7-6 record and a berth in the New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) men's lacrosse semifinals.
A six-time Dean's List honoree and two-time President's List selection, Reel is also a two-time NECC Academic All-Conference performer.
The recipient of the College's Trustee's Prize from the school of business for distinguishing himself in the classroom and outstanding effort and scholarship, Reel was also inducted into the Golden Key International Honour Society and is a member of the College's inaugural class of Chi Sigma Alpha, which honors student-athletes who excel academically.
A criminal justice and homeland security major, Reel is just one of 128 student-athletes across all three divisions to earn the distinction.
