Franklin, Mass. – Sophomore defensive back Tyzohn Poole (New Haven, Conn.) has earned a spot on the D3Football.com National Team of the Week it was announced on Monday evening by Executive Director Pat Coleman.
Poole had a career afternoon as Dean toppled preseason Eastern Collegiate Football Conference (ECFC) favorite, SUNY-Maritime, 28-10 on Saturday. He finished with a game-high 13 tackles and a career-best three sacks as the Bulldog defense recorded a school-record ten sacks enroute to the program's first-ever victory over the Privateers.
He becomes the fourth student-athlete in program history to earn a spot on the weekly national list, joining former defensive stars Ricco Aaron (2017), Marquez Walls (2018) and current teammate Shannon Moxey (2018).
The journey for Poole into standout defensive back has been an interesting one as he arrived at Dean last season and played wide receiver before shifting to linebacker to start this season. For the last two games, he has played safety and has thrived, collecting a combined 24 tackles and four sacks in those contests.
Through the first five games this season, Poole ranks first in the ECFC in sacks (5), fourth in tackles per game (8.4), total tackles (42.0), tackles for loss (7.5).
Dean returns to action on Saturday, October 19 when they travel to Anna Maria for a meeting with the AMCATS that will feature two of the three teams undefeated in league play.
