Visiting Bates College scored four runs in the sixth inning to break open a close game and the Bobcats secured a 10-5 victory over Dean College in non-league baseball action on Tuesday afternoon.
After Bates arrived late due to traffic delays, the game started about 45 minutes late and was eventually called by the umpire in the middle of the ninth due to darkness.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
Brian Hadden (Newburyport, Mass.) put Dean on the board first with an RBI double that plated Matt Troy (Norwalk, Conn.).
The Bobcats evened the score in the second and then moved in front 4-1 in the fifth as they pushed three unearned runs across.
The Bobcats' four runs in the aforementioned sixth inning came on a wild pitch, a balk and two unearned runs.
Dean scored two runs in the sixth – one on a Bates error and the other on a Hadden RBI single.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
Alex Belanger (Southbridge, Mass.) took the loss on the mound for the Bulldogs, despite a solid effort, going 4.2 innings and allowing just one earned run.
Hadden and Vincent Buonaiuto (Danbury, Conn.) combined for five of Dean's nine hits, while Christian Beal went 3-for-4 from his leadoff spot for the Bobcats.
The Bulldogs are back in action on Wednesday when they host Lasell College at 3:00 PM.
