Joe Hanrahan was named the men’s and women’s volleyball head coach at Dean College in June 2019.

Hanrahan takes over the two programs after spending the 2018 season as an assistant coach with the Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI) women’s program and two seasons with the Bentley University men’s club team.

At Dean, Hanrahan will be responsible for providing leadership and oversight of both programs, including student-athlete recruitment and retention, program development and all aspects of coaching.

While with WPI, Hanrahan helped the Engineers earn a spot in the New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) tournament quarterfinals in a season in which the league sent three teams to the NCAA Tournament.

Hanrahan’s two seasons with the Bentley men’s club team saw him oversee the team budget, schedule out of region tournaments and recruiting potential student-athletes.

His reach in the club volleyball world extends to his role as the assistant director of the MGA Volleyball Club based in Weston, Massachusetts where he helped manage 40 club members with practice and monthly tournaments.

Hanrahan also served as league director of Blast Volleyball, where he oversaw tournaments of all levels and coordinated league play throughout the year.

A former standout student-athlete in his own right, Hanrahan was a four-year member of the Regis College men’s team, ending his career as the school’s all-time leader in assists (2,121). He was named to the NECC All-Sportsmanship team as junior in 2016, and then as a senior in 2017, he averaged ten assists per set and set a school record for assists in a season (870) and earned second-team all-conference honors.

Hanrahan graduated from Regis in 2017 with a bachelor’s degree in sport management and is currently pursuing a master’s degree in athletic administration from Lasell College.
