THE LEAD:
Kait Anderson (Clinton, Conn.) had three of her match-high 18 kills in the fifth set and host Dean College held off a scrappy Albertus Magnus squad, 3-2, in non-league women's volleyball action on Monday evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
Dean looked to be in total control after winning the first two sets and were actually three points away from sweeping the match when the Falcons swiped the third set, and then scored the final three points of the fourth set to draw even.

Anderson helped the Bulldogs gain an early advantage in the fifth set when she recorded back-to-back kills to begin the frame.

After Albertus Magnus evened the score at 6-6, Dean separated with four straight points highlighted by a Miranda Marquez (San Pedro, Calif.) kill and a pair of service aces from Melanie Rios-Nevarez (Alta Vega, Puerto Rico).

Ahead 14-8, the Bulldogs saw the Falcons run off three straight points to close the gap but, in the end, Dean held on to secure the 15-11 victory.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
In addition to Anderson's huge night, Rios-Nevarez totaled 13 kills, 20 digs and nine assists, while Nicole Defosses (Colorado Springs, Colo.) racked up 29 assists, 16 digs and six kills.

Paola Gonzalez (Southbridge, Mass.) ended with a team-high 19 digs and Samantha Trullo (Chelmsford, Mass.) chipped in with 17 of her own to go with five kills.

UP NEXT:
Dean is back in action on Wednesday when they jump back into conference play with a visit from Lesley University. First serve is slated for 7:00 PM.
