Becker College used a balanced offensive attack and the host Hawks swept past Dean College, 3-0, in New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) women's volleyball action on Tuesday evening.
Kayla Dupree (nine) and Gillian Criddle (eight) combined for 17 kills and setter Olivia McGuinness recorded 25 assists and 11 digs to lead the Hawks to their second straight win.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
The opening set was tied at 10-10 when Becker recorded five straight points to take control of the set on their way to a 25-22 victory.
Amazingly, the middle frame was tied at 10-10 when the Hawks went on a similar scoring spree, this time moving ahead 14-11 before settling for a 25-19 triumph.
In the final set, the score was all square at 15-15 when the Hawks built a 21-16 advantage following a Megan Gould service ace.
Kills from Paola Gonzalez (Southbridge, Mass.) and Kait Anderson (Clinton, Conn.) brought the Bulldogs closer but it was not meant to be as Criddle and Veronica Patella-Quinones sealed the match with kills.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
Melanie Rios-Nevarez (Alta Vega, Puerto Rico) led the Dean offensive attack with eight kills, while both Anderson and Gonzalez had seven each.
Dean returns to action on Friday when they play host to NECC rival, Bay Path. First serve is set for 6:00 p.m.
