THE LEAD:
The Dean College Bulldogs dropped a 3-1 contest against host SUNY-Delhi in the opening frame of Sunday's season opening tri-match. 

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • The Bulldogs fell behind early, dropping the first set 25-21.  The set was tied at 13 before a four point push from Delhi swung the momentum that carried them to the set victory.

  • Dean responded in set two, scoring five of the last six ponts to earn a 25-17 win.

  • Delhi pulled away late in set three, coasting to a 25-17 win of their own.

  • Tied at 24 in the final set, Delhi scored the final two points to secure the match.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

  • Melanie Rios-Nevarez (Vega Alta, Puerto Rico) led the Bulldogs in kills, finishing with 12 while also adding nine digs.  
  • Nicole Defosses (Colorado Springs, Colo.) filled out the stat line, registering nine kills, 15 assists, and 11 digs. 
  • Freshman Victoria Whitmore (Bedford, Mass.) and Senior Samantha Trullo (Chelmsford, Mass.) recorded 27 and 20 digs respectively.

THE LEAD:
Dean dropped Sunday's nightcap by the same 3-1 score, this time falling to Valley Forge to drop to 0-2 on the young season. 

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Dean fell 25-23 in an opening set that was tied 13 times before Valley Forge scored the final two points.

  • The Patriots scored 10 of the last 12 points in set two to take a 25-15 decision and control of the contest.

  • Dean fired back in set three, scoring the final five points to take a 25-20 victory and cut into the Valley Forge advantage.

  • The Patriots proved too much for Dean in the final set, coasting to a 25-12 win and a 3-1 final.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

  • Trullo's 27 digs led the team while Rios-Nevarez and Whitmore added 26 and 19 respectively.
  • Rios-Nevarez again led the squad with 15 kills, while Trullo pitched in seven and Miranda Marquez (San Pedro, Calif.) and Paola Gonzalez (Southbridge, Mass.) both added five.
  • Defosses posted a double-double, collecting 24 assists and 10 digs.
