THE LEAD:
Dean College had four players reach double figures and the visiting Bulldogs held off a hard-charging Lesley University squad, 77-67 in a crucial New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) women's basketball showdown on Saturday night.

The win for the Bulldogs keeps them in the thick of the NECC postseason playoff push with five regular season games remaining.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
In a game that featured seven ties and 11 lead changes, Dean didn't pull away from the undermanned Lynx until late in the fourth quarter.

Lesley played just five players and they battled hard and midway through the third quarter, the game was tied at 37-37.

Dean took the lead for good going on an 11-2 run that was kickstarted by five straight points from Iindia Pina (Carver, Mass.) and featured hoops from Allison Buckley (Guilford, Vt.) and Amanda Miressi (New Rochelle, N.Y.).

Lesley continued to battle, tying the score at 51-51 after a Kacey Johnson three-pointer and Theresa Pereria (Hopedale, Mass.) basket early in the fourth quarter.

Dean scored six straight points on scores from Makayla Rudder (Springfield, Mass.) and a pair by Pina to get some breathing room but Lesley was still within three a few minutes later.

The Bulldogs did put the game away with a three-pointer from Miressi, a basket by Stephanie Conrad (Bedford, N.H.) and then another hoop from Pina, making the score 66-56 with less than five minutes to play.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
Pina led all scorers with 27 points, six rebounds and nine steals, while Rudder had 20 points, 16 rebounds and three steals of her own.

Miressi came off the bench and provided 12 points, five rebounds and three steals and Jamaya Cleveland (Greensboro, Ga.) added ten points of her own.

UP NEXT:
Dean kicks off a busy week with a road trip to New England College on Tuesday before hosting Becker College on Thursday and visiting Elms on Saturday.
