Marshfield, Mass. – For the third consecutive week, Dean College freshman sensation, Makayla Rudder (Springfield, Mass.) has been named the New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) women's basketball rookie of the week it has been announced by the league office.
Rudder helped lead the Bulldogs to a 2-1 record in three games last week while averaging 19.3 points, 9.7 rebounds, 2.0 steals and 2.0 assists.
In Dean's 70-59 loss at Eastern Nazarene, Rudder finished with 16 points and 11 rebounds – her second straight double-double.
She followed that up with a 20-point, ten-rebound effort in a hard-fought road 61-56 win at Johnson & Wales.
Rudder then capped the week with 22 points, eight rebounds, five assists and three steals in an easy 86-48 victory over Lesley University.
So far this season, Rudder leads the NECC in scoring (19.4) and ranks fifth in both rebounds per game (10.3) and field goal percentage (47.6) while recording four double-doubles.
Dean returns to action this week with three more contests – Tuesday at home versus Simmons, Thursday on the road at Bridgewater State and then home to wrap up the semester against Colby-Sawyer on Saturday.
