Mansfield, Mass. – For the second straight week, Dean College freshman standout Makayla Rudder (Springfield, Mass.) has been honored by the New England Collegiate Conference (NECC).
In an announcement made Monday by the league office, Rudder was named both the NECC Player and Rookie of the Week for games ending on November 25.
In a 1-1 week for the Bulldogs, Rudder was phenomenal, averaging 22 points per game, to go along with 11.5 rebounds and 4.5 steals while shooting a stellar 53 percent from the field.
Rudder opened the week with 16 points, nine rebounds and four steals in a tough 64-58 setback on the road at Mitchell College.
She followed up that effort with a monster showing in delivering Dean their first win of the season – a 68-48 triumph over Southern Vermont at home on Saturday. Rudder totaled 28 points (12-for-20 field goals), 14 rebounds and five steals – all career-highs.
So far this season, she leads the NECC in scoring (19.4), is fourth in rebounding (10.6) and steals (3.6) and is fifth in field goal percentage (50.7).
Rudder and the rest of the Bulldogs embark on a busy week on Tuesday when they travel to Eastern Nazarene for a 7:00 PM NECC showdown with the Lions before heading out of conference on Thursday to square off with Johnson & Wales. They will wrap up the week with a Saturday home conference contest against Lesley University.
