THE LEAD:
Elms College star infielder, Elizabeth Olszewski, drove in a career-high eight runs in the opening game, then went 3-for-3 in the nightcap as the host Blazers took both games of a New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) softball doubleheader with Dean on Friday.

The contests, which were moved from Sunday to Friday afternoon due to the rain in the forecast, are Elms' sixth and seventh wins in their last nine games.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
Dean actually jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the top of the first of game one when Alexis Portales (San Antonio, Texas) opened up with a double and then came around to score on a Karissa Menzinger (Centereach, N.Y.) fielder's choice.

Elms responded by scoring ten runs in the bottom of the inning as Olszewski stroked a two-run double, Jeszy McGuire knocked in two more with an infield hit and then Olszewski came to the plate again in the inning and cleared the bases with a three-run double to highlight the offensive explosion.

The Blazers then scored six more runs in the second and again, Olszewski was in the middle of it all with a three-run homer to center.

In the nightcap, the Bulldogs followed almost exactly the same formula as Portales led off with a double and then scored on a Menzinger single to right.

Elms evened the score in the bottom of the first when Maguire drew a bases loaded walk. The Blazers then surged ahead with five runs in the bottom of the second as both Olszewski and Tyla Risucci had RBI doubles.

Dean pushed another run across in the fourth when Danielle Dumont (Nashua, N.H.) smacked a one-out double and then scored on a Makenzie Souza (New Bedford, Mass.) single.

It was not to be for the Bulldogs, however, as the Blazers added three more runs in the fourth – one of which came on an RBI double from Catherine Wrang.

UP NEXT:
Dean is back in action on Saturday when they remain in NECC play with a doubleheader at Wheelock. First pitch is scheduled for 11:00 AM.
