THE LEAD:
Playing for the first time in 2018, the Dean College softball team dropped a pair of games at the Fastpitch Dreams Classic in Myrtle Beach, S.C. on Monday. LaRoche College took the first game 18-3 in five innings and then the Bulldogs dropped an 11-4 decision to Penn State-Harrisburg in the evening.

Game 1: LaRoche College 18, Dean College 3
Dean fell behind early and could never quite catchup as the Redhawks banged out 18 hits and took advantage of six Bulldog errors.

LaRoche jumped on the board in the first with four runs but the Bulldogs sliced that lead in half when Karissa Menzinger (Centereach, N.Y.) singled home Melanie Rios-Nevarez (Alta Vega, Puerto Rico) and then Alexis Brown (Taunton, Mass.) stole home on a Dean double steal.

The Redhawks continued to tack on runs as they recorded a total of seven extra base hits in their five innings of work.

Dean did get another run in the bottom of the fifth on an Alexis Portales (San Antonio, Texas) bunt that eventually scored Danielle Dumont (Nashua, N.H.).

LaRoche's Ashley Buford was the star of the game, going 5-for-5 with three runs scored and three RBI. Brown, Dumont, Menzinger, Portales and Rios-Nevarez all had hits for the Bulldogs

Game 1: Penn State-Harrisburg 11, Dean College 4
Harrisburg scored six runs in the first inning on their way to an early 9-0 lead as they took an 11-4 win over the Bulldogs on Monday evening.

Emily Parmer provided a great deal of the Harrisburg offense with two doubles, a stolen base and three RBI.

Danielle Dumont (Nashua, N.H.) went 3-for-3 at the plate for Dean, who also got run RBI from Alexis Brown (Taunton, Mass.) and Michelle Sessa (Tewksbury, Mass.).
