FRANKLIN, Mass.- The Dean College Bulldogs swept Wheelock College in a doubleheader at Longley Field on Monday, snapping a 6 game losing streak and improving their record to 9-7. Dean won game 1 16-3 and game 2 22-3.
In Game One, Dean scored eight runs in the second inning and eight more in the next two innings to put game one out of reach. Danielle Dumont starred, driving in 6 runs on the day including a grand slam in the second. Angelina Taylor had 4 hits and 3 RBI, helping her cause on the mound. She pitched all 5 innings alllowing 3 runs on 6 hits and striking out 4.
Brianna Hochwarter, Dominique DelBene, and Shannon Creedon all had 1 hit and 1 RBI for Wheelock. Maggie Doyle took the loss for the Wildcats, allowing eight runs (seven earned) on five hits, and walking nine.
Game Two was a similar result. Dean again raced out to a big lead, scoring 7 runs in the first inning and never looking back. Alexis Brown hit 2 HR and drove in 6 runs, Melanie Rios Nevarez and Karissa Menzinger both hit two doubles and drove in two and one run respectively.
Menzinger went all 5 innings for Dean, allowing three hits, three runs, walking four and striking out five.
Hanna Gootee pitched 2 innings, giving up eleven hits and nine runs while walking one and striking out one.
Dean next plays Thursay, in a doubleheader at New England College starting at 3:00.
Wheelock plays tomorrow in a doubleheader at Curry College starting at 3:00.
