Chicago, Ill. – Former Dean College superstar Geo Alves '17 was drafted in the third round of the Major League Soccer SuperDraft by the D.C. United on Monday afternoon.
Alves was taken with the 62nd pick of the draft and becomes part of a draft class for the United that also features Creighton University standout Akeem Ward.
A two-time All-American, Alves was one of the nation's most feared attackers during his two-year stint at Dean. In 37 career contests with the Bulldogs, he amassed 99 points (39 goals, 21 assists).
Alves then moved on to Division I University of Vermont where his play didn't drop off. In 37 games with the Catamounts, he recorded 19 goals and nine assists, earning First-Team America East honors in both seasons. As a junior in 2017, he led the conference in scoring (23) and was named to the conference's all-academic team. Then during his senior season, he once again led the league in scoring (24) and was named to the United States Coaches (USC) All-Northeast First-Team.
The 2019 MLS season for the United kicks off on Sunday, March 3 against Atlanta FC.
