Groton, Conn. – The Dean College men's golf team opened their 2018-19 season by finishing third at the Mitchell College Invite II on Wednesday afternoon at the Shennecossett Golf Course.
The Bulldogs posted a team score of 348 behind tournament champion Mitchell (311) and second place Purchase College (334).
Dean was paced by Michael McAuliffe (Dunstable, Mass.), who finished in seventh place, posting a round score of 84 (+13). Overall, he finished with eight pars and was just two over on par fives on the afternoon.
A trio of freshmen – Jason Hochberg (Fairfield, Conn.), Tyler Langevin (Franklin, Mass.) and Ethan Lessard (Somers, Conn.) – all carded scores of 88 (+17) to finish tied for ninth. Hochberg recorded four pars in his first collegiate round, while Langevin was +1 on par three holes and had six pars of his own.
Lessard, meanwhile, finished with six pars as well and had the lone birdie of the day for the Bulldogs and was even par on par five holes.
Alec Prete (Orange, Conn.) carded a 93 to finish in 15th place but was stellar on par three holes, finishing one over and collecting pars on four holes.
The Bulldogs are back in action on Tuesday when they take part in the Emmanuel Invitational at the George Wright Golf Course in Boston.
