McCreary In Contention After Opening Round At Blazer Invitational

Amherst, Mass. – The insanely hot streak of golf being played by Dean College senior Austin McCreary (Northampton, Mass.) continued into the first round of the Blazer Invitational on Sunday afternoon at the Hickory Ridge Country Club.

McCreary carded an even-par opening round of 72 to find himself in a tie for second place in a field of 78 other golfers. Babson College freshman Lane Bohman is the clubhouse leader after the first 18 holes after shooting a 71 (-1).

As a team, the Bulldogs currently sit in 12th place after a round of 328. Babson recorded a score of 294 in the round to sit atop the leaderboard, three strokes ahead of second place Western New England (297).

McCreary made his hay on the par fives where he shot a round best three under par and continued his steady play with 13 pars and one of the four eagles carded on the afternoon.

Michael McAuliffe (Dunstable, Mass.) finished with an opening round of 81 (+9) for Dean, while Kyle Bemis (Mansfield, Mass.) recorded a round of 85 (+13).

The Bulldogs other two participants – Owen Madigan-Fried (Swampscott, Mass.) and Harry Caslowitz (Providence, R.I.) – each posted scores in the 90s, with Madigan-Fried turning in a 90 (+18) and Caslowicz finishing the round with a 97 (+25).

Final round action resumes on Monday with the venue shifting to The Orchards Country Club in South Hadley. Tee times for the Cardinal and White begin at 11:50 AM.
