Marshfield, Mass. – Winners of six of their last seven games, Dean College has been seeded third in the New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) Men's Basketball Championship it was announced late Saturday afternoon by the league office.
The Bulldogs (17-8, 11-5 NECC) will host the tournament's sixth seed, Newbury College (10-14, 6-10 NECC) on Tuesday, February 19 at 7:00 p.m.
Dean and the Nighthawks tangled twice during the regular season with the Bulldogs coming out on top both times. Back in early January in Franklin, Dean claimed a 111-104 victory and then they swept the season series with a 102-95 triumph a few weeks ago in Brookline.
The matchup will feature two of the three teams in the conference that average more than 80 points per game. Newbury ranks second at 86.3 points per game, while the Bulldogs are third at 85.0 and have eclipsed the century mark five times this season.
Also on display in Tuesday's matchup will be the league's top two scorers in the Nighthawks' Omar Williams (22.8) and Dean's Jordan Booker (22.6).
Williams is an explosive scorer who has six games with 30 points or more, including 39 in the Bulldogs' win in January.
Booker, meanwhile, is an extremely efficient scorer, shooting better than 50 percent from the field while also ranking second in the conference in three-pointers made (80). In two games against Newbury this season, he is averaging 34.5 points, while shooting 55 percent from the field, including going 11-for-18 from behind the arc.
The winner of this matchup will travel to Eastern Nazarene on Thursday evening for a semifinal meeting with the Lions.
