THE LEAD: Two Josh Croskey (Union, N.J.) free throws gave the Dean College Bulldogs a one point lead with 55 seconds remaining, and the visitors held on for an 80-77 victory over NECC opponent Newbury College on Tuesday night in Brookline, Mass.

  • Dean fell behind early, trailing 10-4 and 16-9 before rallying to tie the score at 16 on a three pointer from Dayvon Russell (Naugatuck, Conn.). Newbury responded with eight straight points to take a 24-16 lead.
  • A Malik Brown (Miami, Fla.) three pointer narrowed the Nighthawks lead to 31-27 with six minutes remaining.  Back and forth action filled the last few minutes of the half, with Newbury scoring in the closing seconds to take a 44-36 lead into the break.
  • Randolf Thurman (Swampscott, Mass.) drilled a jumper four minutes into the second half to give Dean a 47-46 lead and moments later Russell hit a three to extend Dean's lead to its largest of the night, 52-46.
  • Newbury responded to tie the game and the teams traded baskets down the stretch, leading to the exciting culmination.
  • Croskey hit a jumper to give Dean a 75-72 lead with just over two minutes remaining but back to back to hoops gave Newbury the lead again with over a minute to play.  On the next trip, Croskey delivered twice from the charity stripe and Dean held on for the crucial NECC win.

  • Russell rebounded from a rough shooting weekend to lead Dean with 15 points on 5-13 shooting, including 4-8 from downtown.  He added five rebounds and four assists.  Armani Baker (Pawtucket, R.I.) scored 14 points and added 11 rebounds. Jordan Booker (Waterbury, Conn.) filled out the statsheet, scoring 13, dishing out 10 assists, hauling in eight rebounds and collecting five steals.  Marquez Walls (St. Petersburg, Fla.) and Brown came off the bench to score ten and 11 points.
  • The Bulldogs shot 46% from the field compared to 36% for the Nighthawks.  Newbury outscored Dean 20-13 in points off turnovers and held 18-6 lead in second chance points.  Dean held a decisive advantage in bench points 23-8.
  • Dean is now 11-8 overall and 5-4 in the NECC.  They have won four of their last five and are now 5-3 on the road.
