Franklin, Mass. – Dean College junior Shannon Moxey (Marietta, Ga.) was named to the D3football.com National Team of the Week it was announced late Monday evening.
The award for the savvy defensive back comes following a monster performance in the Bulldogs' 19-17 win over Castleton University last Saturday. In that contest, Moxey registered five tackles – all solo – including one for a loss, while forcing a fumble, breaking up a pass and registering a pair of interceptions.
His first interception of the day came early in the second quarter and he returned it 31 yards. His second, meanwhile, setup the eventual game-winning score after he stepped in front of a Spartan receiver and followed a convoy of blockers deep into Castleton territory midway through the fourth quarter.
This marks the second award of the season for Moxey, who was named Eastern Collegiate Football Conference (ECFC) defensive player of the week in late September.
Through eight games this season, Moxey leads the conference in interceptions (six), has 45 tackles, a sack, a pair of forced fumbles and four pass breakups.
Moxey, meanwhile, becomes the third Dean football student-athlete to earn a spot on the prestigious weekly list since the program became eligible last season. The D3football.com national team of the week is in its 20th season of honoring the top player nationally at each position from the previous week. Ricco Aaron (October 3) and Marquez Walls (November 8) each earned the honor during the 2017 season.
Dean wraps up its 2018 season with a home contest on Saturday, November 10 against Anna Maria. Kickoff is slated for 12:00 PM.
