Visiting New England College extended its winning streak to three game by banging out 34 hits on their way to a sweep of a New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) baseball twinbill with Dean College on Saturday afternoon.
As impressive as their hit total might have been, the Pilgrims pitchers was equally as dominant as Nick Powers struck out eight in the opener and Shayne Audet spun a one-hitter in the nightcap.
Game 1: New England College 9, Dean College 3
NEC wasted little time getting on the board as they pushed across three runs in the first, including a leadoff homerun from Christian Aybar.
Dean cut into the lead in the bottom of the first when Andrew Dirito (Plymouth, Mass.) drove in a run with a base hit, but the Pilgrims got single runs in the second and third to move in front, 5-1.
Another Bulldog run came across in the third on a Landon Fish (New Port Richey, Fla.) single to right center, but New England College had an answer with three runs in the fourth, highlighted by a two-run single from Aybar.
Fish provided Dean's other run in the seventh with single to right.
Luis Atiles went 4-for-4 for the Pilgrims, who had six others record at least two hits, including Aybar who had three hits and three RBI.
Game 2: New England College 11, Dean College 0
Audet allowed a leadoff single to Jeff Sharnick (Stratford, Conn.) in the second inning but didn't yield another one as the Pilgrims held Dean off the scoreboard on their way to a convincing 11-0 win in Saturday's nightcap.
After a NEC went ahead 1-0 in the first, they took control in the second with five runs in the frame highlighted by a two-run blast from Connor Morin.
Nick Powers brought home the next two runs for the Pilgrims on an RBI double in the second and then another run scoring single in the third.
Anderson Jimenez knocked in a run in the fifth on a sacrifice fly and then drove in two more with a two-run homerun in the seventh.
Aybar and Powers each had three hits, while Morin and Jimenez both had three RBI.
Dean is back in action on Monday when they host Bates College at 1:00 PM.
