In a wild affair that featured 31 runs, 31 hits and 11 errors, Dean College closed out its Spring Break trip with a thrilling 17-14 win over CCNY on Sunday evening at Baseball Heaven.
Amazingly, CCNY had 23 of the game's 31 hits but Dean scored 13 runs over the final two innings, including a nine-run eighth inning that turned the tables and helped buoy them to victory.
Down 9-4 heading into the top of the eighth, the Bulldogs sent 14 batters to the plate and scored the aforementioned nine runs without recording a hit. They took advantage of some wild CCNY pitching as they drew six walks, had a batter hit by a pitch and took advantage of three errors in the frame to move in front, 13-9.
After CCNY scored a single run in the bottom of the eighth, Dean put four more runs on the board in the top of the ninth highlighted by a Ben Chajet (Hillsboro Beach, Fla.) two-run single.
Those runs were needed after CCNY scored five in the bottom of the inning, but the Bulldogs were able to escape with the victory.
Eight different Dean players recorded single hits but it was Corey Karnila (Raritan, N.J.) who finished with three RBI, while Jeff Sharnick (Stratford, Conn.) had three runs scored, while five others came across the plate twice.
