Attleboro, Mass. – Dean College freshman hurler, Gaten Davis (Anchorage, Alaska) has been named to the New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) all-conference second team it was announced this afternoon by the league office.
Davis emerged as one the Bulldogs' frontline starters in his inaugural season, ending with a 2-2 overall record and save.
He made 14 appearances on the mound for Dean, including six starts and finished first on the team in strikeouts (40), second in innings pitched (42.0), complete games (3) and strikeouts per nine innings (8.57).
After a slow start in the non-conference portion of the schedule, Davis found his stride in late March when he struck out two batters in an inning of work to earn the save in a 4-2 win over Newbury.
In his next appearance, he tossed a complete game, striking out eight against Southern Vermont.
His first victory on the mound came in a 4-3 win over Elms where he again went the distance, scattering seven hits and fanning five.
Davis' best performance of the year came in the season-ending series with league rival Becker. He spun a six-hit, nine-strikeout masterpiece in an 8-3 win over the playoff-bound Hawks.
In addition to his accolades on the field, Davis was just one of six student-athletes named to the College's President's List in the Fall, after achieving a semester grade point average of 4.0 or higher.
