In head coach Ernie May's first season at the helm, the Dean College Bulldogs baseball team finished the 2017 season with a 16-15-2 record.
Dean started slow, dropping their first five games and five out of the next seven to finish March at 3-10. The Bulldogs rebounded strongly in April, ripping off an eight game win streak and later evening their record at .500 with a big win over Lasell College on April 20th.
Dean closed out the year with a win ovr Maine- Presque Isle and a win over Newbury College on the last weekend of the season.
Dean was 10-3-2 at Longley field and 5-9 on the road. They went 1-3 at neutral sites. The team bat .313 on the year with a .427 OBP and .466 slugging. They hit 19 home runs as a group. In 253 innings pitched, they allowed 326 hits and 249 runs (210 earned). Their team ERA was 7.47.
Ivan Vazquez led the Bulldogs with a .407 average in 59 at bats. He had 2 doubles, 5 homers and 14 RBI while scoring 15 runs.
Christopher Wood batted .404 in 99 at bats, ripping 9 doubles, 2 triples, and three homers and driving in 29.
Christian Ponce led the Bulldogs with 36.2 innings pitched. He allowed 38 hits and 24 runs (15 earned) for a 3.68 ERA, while striking out 18 on his way to a 3-1 record in 9 appearances.
Victor Paiva JR finished 3-3 on the year in 9 appearances. He had a 6.47 ERA, allowing 29 earned runs and striking out 32.
Jason Bottone appeared in 7 games, going 3-2 with a 7.38 ERA. He allowed 69 hits hits and 42 runs (35 earned) while striking out 19.
