FRANKLIN, Mass.- The Dean College Bulldogs defeated Lasell College 9-5 on Thursday at Longley Field. The Bulldogs win puts them over .500 for the first time this season, improving their record to 14-13-1 on the year. Dean has now won 10 out of their last 12 games.
Three runs in the second gave the Bulldogs the early lead and four runs in the seventh put the game out of reach. Christopher Wood's RBI double in the second keyed their early rally. A two run double from Mitch Leblanc and RBI singles from Wood and Aldo Ripley were the catalysts in the seventh.
Lasell chipped away wih two runs in the fifth and sixth before scoring 3 in the ninth in a final rally that came up short. Dom Mascolo went 3-4 for Lasell with a run scored. Skylar Beckerman went 2-5 with an RBI and David Marsell went 2-3. Brett Sherron pinch hit a two run double in the ninth.
Jason Bottone picked up the win for Dean on the mound, going eight innings and allowing eleven hits and two runs while striking out three. Christian Ponce came on for the ninth inning in a non save situation and allowed 3 runs (1 earned) on two hits and struck out one.
Frank Zammarelli picked the up loss the Lasell. He pitched five innings, giving up 7 hits and 3 runs, while walking one and striking out four. Zach Handzel got roughed up in relief, allowing 6 runs (earned) on six hits over 1 2/3 innings.
Dean plays home tomorrow against Fitchburg State at 3:30.
Lasell plays a doubleheader Saturday at Albertus Magnus, first pitch is at 12:00PM.
